Science and Robots

Today it is off to the Science Museum. They have this new fangled ring with animated text on it. I wonder who Thomas is. In a few years I should probably be scared of him.

I just love walking round this place. Some very good photo ops.

Of course, it gets depressing when you find things that you used to use as a kid now relegated to museum pieces. I used to have a calculator just like the one on the right.

Then over to the Natural History museum to look at some bones and stuff.

Then off to the movies. We saw the film at Leicester Square. A good action movie, but a little bit short on the deep and meaningful.

London is Lovely

Got good weather today. May actually have a use for the suncream that we brought. But we are taking the umbrellas as well. First stop is the Edward Hopper exhibition in the Tate Modern. Wonderful pictures, if a little cold on the human side. Stop off for a coffee.

Outside on the balcony there is a lovely panorama of the millennium bridge and St. Paul's Cathedral. This looks a lot better in the 4000 pixel wide stitched version, but you might not appreciate that form a download point of view.

Get closer, and St Paul's is in good form.

And just around the corner, you'd never guess.....

Then over to Harrods to pick up some American culture.

Before heading off to the theatre for the proper stuff.

We saw the play "When Harry Met Sally". Very, very good. Extremely clever staging and good acting throughout. A nice end to the day.

London is Horrid

Drove down to London today for a few days. At the moment conditions are horrible. There is a steady and unpleasant rain and it is impossibly warm and humid. And I'm paying big money for this trip as well.

Improved matters somewhat by going down to Foyles, the best bookshop in Britain, perhaps the world. Other places have a couple of books on a subject. Or maybe even a shelf. Foyles has entire rooms on particular topics. We spent a lot of time (and a fair amount of cash) in there.

Then on for some fast food. Garfunkels had some inspiring words on the walls.

Next stop was the tube home. I like taking the tube, even though today it was a bit hot and sticky (a recurring phrase for the entire trip).

We are staying in Stratford, a few miles outside the centre of London. They seem to go in for interesting sculptures in the street:

And impressive buildings.

Hiatus

I'm going on my travels. The Spoke blog is easier to update by remote control, so keep checking there for Rob Miles stuff and nonsense..

Sighs of Relief

The parcel has been recovered. So it looks like a happy ending of sorts. But I'm still waiting for the call from the PM's office.....

Oh, and is someone who tells fibs about a post mortem a pathological liar?

Master of Stupidity

You can imagine the scene. A cabinet meeting at 10 Downing Street. The PM bangs the table. "Look people, after all these years in office we seem to have run out of stupid things to do" he shouts. "The public have certain expectations of us you know. Anyone got any stupid ideas?". At the back a lowly under secretary raises his hand. "We, we could always ask Rob Miles what to do" he stammers. "He has a pretty good track record in this area". "Tell me more about this Rob Miles person" the PM demands. "Well", continues the secretary nervously, "I heard that he sold a lot on ebay and then sent it to the wrong address". "Brilliant" booms the PM. "Let's get to it". "I'll go and ask the wife to get cracking on it as soon as possible...."

Oh well. I just hope that it doesn't affect my rating too much.

Car Washing and Profundity

In celebration of having matching wheels, I cleaned the car inside and out today. Whilst doing jobs like car washing my mind tends to wander. "Why is it called a 'glove compartment'?". The one in my car is full of tape cassettes, sweets, pens, bits of wire and maps of Ipswich. But no gloves. In traffic later I saw a car where the driver had put his gloves on the dashboard. I almost wound the window down and shouted "Oi, those should be in the glove compartment". But I didn't. I just sat there thinking "Why is it called a dashboard?".
