More Christmas Fare

We have part 2 of our Christmas in Bristol. I really like the idea of turning up at someone's house and having them give you free food and drink. And crackers:

Number 107 in a series of 10,000,000...

Went round to see Shaun and Helen (more free food and drink..). If you ever want any Alice Cooper stuff I now know of a very good source. Lots of amazing stuff including contracts, hand written lyrics, the lot.

Bargain Hunting... not

Didn't go bargain shopping today. But I did see this on Monday which is as good a reason as any to rush down to Asda:

Sorry about the blur, I couldn't hold the camera still for laughing. Yes, it is a reduction of a whole penny...

A Christmas Message

A Merry Christmas to both my readers.

A Moray Christmas to any eels reading this.

A Marriott Christmas to any hotel owners out there.

A Monet Christmas to all French Impressionists.

.. and a Maori Christmas to all New Zealanders

Reasons to be Cheerful

And now, an uplifting thought from our non-sponsors. No matter how bad things get, how low you sink, how terrible your life seems, it is very unlikely you will have to endure the public humiliation these people have been forced to undergo.

Lazy Tuesday

Spent the day lazing around not doing a lot. (you can decide for yourself just how much that isn't). Got round to taking pictures out of my camera that I took on Saturday when it snowed:

Must go round that boat sometime. If I do, I'll post the pictures.

Blinded by the light, and thence to Return of the King

Bought a timer for the lights outside. Apparently, at night when the moon goes behind a cloud it is possible to see our lights. I'm wondering if this will lead to people coming round to find out if they can see our lights or not. A bit like astronomers who use powerful telescopes to search out stars in the darkest regions of the night sky. Perhaps not.

Then went to see "The Return of the King". What a film. Truly great stuff from start to finish. The last bit was pretty moving. There were some people in the cinema crying at the end. And not because they'd just realised how much the popcorn costs.

Festive Decorations

Yesterday I weakened and bought a set of outdoor lights with which my intention is to light up the neighbourhood. They were cheap (last years stock as it happens) and I thought that they could be fitted with a minimum of effort (my favourite kind). But I reckoned without the garage door. I'm not sure what the people who be bought our house from used to do in the line of home repair. But I do know that they kept the garage door well greased. When we moved in we found numerous tins of grease in the garage which were half empty. Perhaps they had "greasing parties" where they gathered and clarted icky sticky stuff all over the metalwork around the door. They could have sung greasing songs and had drinks and oily fish snacks. Perhaps I have an overactive imagination.

Anyhoo, the fact remains that our garage doors are very well greased, nay perhaps even over greased. Which made threading a thin wire around their workings even more fun that I thought it would be. Ended up covered in the horrid stuff. Number one son came out to help and made a good start by dropping the lights onto the floor so that they shattered into a large number of coloured plastic pieces. Which he then managed to re-assemble amid mutterings that the colour sequence was not consistent and didn't repeat properly.

Put the lights on and they are a bit dim. Perhaps last year they would have been brighter. Number one daughter voiced the opinion that we should not have tried to compete with the neighbours. Adding some lights puts us "in the game". But the lights we have added put us "in the game but losing". I don't mind that much, the fact that you can't tell whether the lights are on or not means I can leave them on all the time....
