Watch Top Secret. Now.

Great day today. Managed to snag the DVD of the movie "Top Secret" at a knock down price. Top Secret does for spy movies what Airplane did for flying ones. Only better. If you haven't seen it you are very lucky because you will have the joy of seeing it for the first time. Get it. Watch it. Now. No further instructions at this time.

Random Plot Exposition

I think I've watched too many movies and read too many books. I keep using that kind of dialogue they trot out to explain the plot for the viewer/reader:

You mean that now we have to go shopping because we have run out of food and beverages?

The kids don't mind too much, but in real life it can be kind of embarrassing:

So now I have to pay for these goods or that man over there in the peaked cap will come over and work me over with a blunt instrument?

or

You mean you think I've had this kind of half baked comic idea and I'm not sure how to end it?

Er, yes.

The Lure of the Open Road

Drove back from Reading today. On the way back we kept seeing signs which said (in a rather hypnotic way I thought):

Think..... Don't drive tired

The first sign with this on it was followed by one which informed us that the next service station was over 20 miles away, but you've got to admire them for trying I suppose.

I'm not sure it's the right thing to say though. You can imagine the scene. The driver looks up and sees the message, "Hmm, tired eh?" they muse "I hadn't really thought about it, but now you come to mention it I am feeling a bit...(yawn)... sleepy. Maybe I ought to......". Insert appropriate sound effect here...

If I was in charge of the signs I'd put things up which got you thinking, rather than sent you to sleep:

If a tree falls in a forest.......

On the other hand, this might just lead to lots of distracting philosophical arguments at eighty miles an hour, which could turn out to be just as dangerous as dozing drivers...

Microsoft Most Valued Professional Open Day

The clue is in the title. And a most pleasant day was had by all. We got to see some details of the MVP summit in Redmond earlier this year (looked like great fun) and a presentation by the MVP head honcho. I'm very impressed (and perhaps a little humbled) by the way that Microsoft take their valued professionals so seriously. I spent the evening hobnobbing with Microsoft great and good. And some of them were even impressed by my Smartphone cheese game. Or perhaps they were just being polite.....

Bad By Design

Paul has informed me that my blog site lacks style and visual impact. Where I come from them's fighting words (one of the reasons I left actually). I've had a look at Paul's site and it does look a lot better than mine. And he has an Italian translation of his too. Ho hum. I think I'll change the point size of my site and add a few pages in Klingon.

Marking Done

Yay! Finished marking. Just got to sit through a few interminable meetings and all is done for the year and I can get on with some other stuff.

Sunday Horror

Went to a Garden Centre today. Most of the plants are green and have really hard to say names. The people with me were waxing lyrical over the hardly perennials (or something) and stuff. I'm still not sure about gardening. You do it once and you have to do it all again in three months (sometimes even sooner).
