Irresistable Bargains
Bought another cheap DVD player again today. I am so weak. It is the same as the one I fitted up for number one daughter. But it was down to thirty five quid. Cheaper than the B5 boxed set! I've set it up in the conservatory (gosh that sounds so posh, all I need now is a library and I can play Cluedo) where it works as a nice music centre.
Then ho to Ian's for an evening of BBQing, drinking and snooker. I can't play snooker, but I enjoy not doing it - if you see what I mean. The home to bed. On the way home in the dark the car turned itself into a one eyed monster, I've bought another headlamp bulb to sort that out...

Friday Night's Alright for Clueless
Number one son had some chums round to watch "Kill Bill 1" on our telly. I've no particular urge to see the film (but the sound effects sounded great from upstairs). Me and number one daughter watched Clueless instead. This was one of the first "teen highschool flicks" of the new batch, and was responsible for kickstarting the genre (movie critic mode engaged). It is based on "Pride and Prejudice" by Jane Austen. The dialogue is the thing to watch it for. My favourite line (probably not quite correctly quoted - but there you go):
Josh: "If you ever did anything that wasn't totally selfish, I swear I'd kill myself" Cher: "Oh, that would be reason enough"

An Apology
I feel that I really must apologise for the blog entry yesterday. It is just what we were all sitting in coffee and Peter told this (what I thought) really good joke. They are a bit like that, our coffee sessions. A bit like "Saturday Night at the London Palladium", except without the singing. Or the dancing. Or the entertainment. Anyhoo, some miscreant opined that it would not be long before the joke appeared on my blog. I was of course mightily affronted. As you know, dear reader, everything posted here is original and all my own work. But then I thought, since I already seem to have been tried and found guilty of the crime, I might as well commit it. And the rest (like just about everything else about me) is history.
Spent some time this evening with number one daughter thinking up marketing slogans for Gravy Browning; "It makes your gravy brown". Now there's a job I wouldn't want.

Thank you Peter
A bloke goes into the doctor's and says "Doctor, I keep thinking I'm a moth". The doctor replies "Hmmm. This sounds like a problem for a psychiatrist. Could you go see him instead?". And the man responds "Well, I would have done, but your light was on"

Back on the wire
My pages seem to have settled down. Of course you can always read me on the Spoke, where my alter ego is still getting good access. (I wonder if people with split personalities have multiple blogs?). Must remember to ask myself that later when I meet up...
Found a couple of quite funny sites today. Take a look at these beauties. Really makes you appreciate the Compact Disk.

Wobbly Monday
Apologies to anyone trying to read the blog today. My service provider saw fit to replace the index page file with one which was zero bytes in size. This may be a cunning way to reduce bandwidth requirements, either way it meant that anyone after their "Daily Dose of Rob" (shudder) would have been out of luck. I'm wondering if the problem is because I now have so many readers that I've hit the traffic limit on the server. Or not.
Spent the day marking and doing lecturer type things. Then went home and watched some Firefly. We are really getting into it now, and each episode is getting better and better.

Hidden Riches
A few months I noticed a new magazine on one of my regular trips up town. It is called Retro Gamer and has loads of articles about old computers and games machines. Being very old and remembering this stuff from first time round, I bought a copy. Seems like this was a good move. Copies of issue one (like the one I bought) are now changing hands on Ebay for thirty or forty quid. I'm surprised at this. The magazine is OK, but I'm not sure how come it is worth so much. Anyhoo, I'm going to hang on to my copy for now. They are doing a neat deal where you can get a free Namco Arcade controller (a joystick thing with a few Namco games - including Pac Man - built in) with a subscription. I think I'll sign up for this. I never thought I'd be old enough to be able to indulge in nostalgia, but now that I am I might as well wallow in it...
