And So To Scarborough
Last ceremony. Now I can send the suit to the cleaners. On the other hand, it might just walk there by itself. The ceremony went very well, enlivened by a superb speech by the actor Timothy West. One of the things that I've learnt in this business is that you must not assume that a good actor is capable of giving a good speech. People who are great at delivering lines by other people sometimes fail to come up with the goods when saying their own words. But not Dr. West. By gum that chap can speak well. Most enjoyable.
Less enjoyable was the two hour journey back from Scarborough, but fortunately I was having chili for tea which can stand any amount of reheating.

Degrees of Freedom
Meanwhile, back at the degree ceremony, life goes on as what is starting to become normal. Some good speeches today, one from a medical gent:
Doctors know everything but can do nothing. Surgeons know nothing, but will try anything. Psychiatrists know nothing and can do nothing. Pathologists know everything, but arrive a bit late.
Went out tonight to celebrate the academic success of number one wife, who has just qualified in Mental Health Nursing. Now that's a handy qualification in our house...

Two More Ceremonies
A couple more degree ceremonies today. The lady that arranges my gown reckons that I'm getting quite good at it myself these days, which is nice. I'm getting complaints that the jokes are always the same in my speech. Well duh! You think that material of that quality is easy to come up with? I'm thinking of trying out another line:
"So I opened the fridge door and my girlfriend sang 'Mama, he's making ice at me!'"
Always leave them wanting more. That's what I say.

Death by Degrees
Hi to anyone who was at the degree ceremony today. I'll post a picture from the rostrum later when I've taken it for those who wonder what it looks like from that side.
I did two today. One was for the Business School. One thing about business school graduates is that they always open their certificates to make sure they have what the are supposed to. I reckon this means that they have been trained well...

Bought the Dog
Bought the dog. But I'm still going to sell all my toys to raise the money. Signed up on Ebay to sell stuff today. Boy, are they thorough. They didn't actually ask for a blood sample, but I reckon that as soon as the technology is there - they will do..
Now I've got to find all the bits and boxes and start my commercial juggernaut running....

Everything Must Go....
Still looking for things to sell on ebay to fund the new toy. I can sell the old dog (the I-Cybie), the second Tivo (never anything worth recording these days), a Pocket PC I was given, a first edition magazine which for some reason is worth something and some other debris. The family is amazed and a bit scared that I am showing such determination. I'll let you know when I post them so that you can all bid like crazy. I'll even autograph them if you like (although this may reduce their value long term.
